Ecuador – Bellavista–Zumba–La Balsa Road Project (Zamora Chinchipe)
The Ministry of Transport and Public Works of Ecuador (MTOP), with financing from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), has launched the improvement of the Bellavista–Zumba–La Balsa corridor in Zamora Chinchipe Province. The USD 150 million project will rehabilitate and pave 51.7 km of road, providing direct benefits to more than 10,800 residents of Chinchipe canton and indirect benefits to over 114,000 people in the province.
With a five-year implementation period, the project aims to enhance road safety and efficiency, improve access to health and education services for border communities, and strengthen regional integration between Ecuador and Peru. Key activities include technical studies, road paving, drainage works, slope stabilization, environmental mitigation, and long-term maintenance.
Expected outcomes include reduced travel times and logistics costs, safer and more reliable infrastructure, improved living conditions, strengthened cross-border trade and tourism, better access to basic services, and the promotion of gender equity.
RoadShow Event on September 4th and 5th, 2025
The Roadshow event for the IV Eje Vial, Bellavista – Zumba – La Balsa in Zamora Chinchipe will be an informative and participatory space to introduce the project to consultants and builders interested in participating in the project tender. The event will take place on September 4 and 5, 2025, in the auditorium of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation (MIT), located at Juan León Mera and Av. Orellana. Space for in-person participation in the event will be limited.
