Solution Overview
for
Structural construction is a low-margin business at high risk. The average project loses 1.9 months during structural construction which takes a 75% share of total delays across the building construction cycle. At the same time, high cost of equipment is eating margin each day.
The reason for delays:
Other than fit out, most components are on the critical path of a project and there is no flexibility to move trades in different floors during disturbances. The project is fully dependent on subcontractor performance, GCs mostly “watch” with little insight in performance and progress. This is what oculai changes.
oculai monitors each activity including workforce count and the sequencing between jobs. The system forecasts progress and highlights inefficiencies. oculai automatically proposes improvement measures.
Our Solution:
Oculai automatically records construction processes and progress using crane-mounted cameras and artificial intelligence. Cameras are installed on the crane tower and continuously capture structural construction activities (e.g. slab concreting, installation of precast walls). A purpose-built AI evaluates the footage daily and recognizes around 75 different construction tasks. Via a web app, users get an automatic target-vs-actual programme for progress control, a workflow analyzer and optimization feature, an AI copilot, self-writing site diaries and a custom dashboard containing live streams and the most important production KPIs.
How it works:
Oculai developed a transformer-based AI pipeline for human group activity recognition on construction sites that is unique worldwide. Unlike webcams with basic AI features or indoor scanning tools, oculai automatically tracks and analyzes real human activity in outdoor shell construction, capturing location, duration, workers involved and disruptions for each task. It is built on large proprietary datasets and a comprehensive quality management system, letting construction companies centrally monitor production, compare process metrics, make data-driven decisions and systematically improve workflows.

Impact & SDGs
Contribution to any of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals:
Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure: Our proprietary AI pipeline brings data-driven innovation to construction, improving how buildings and infrastructure are monitored and delivered.
Sustainable Cities & Communities: Making building construction 10-25% faster and more predictable helps deliver housing and urban infrastructure more reliably.
Responsible Consumption & Production: Objective progress and productivity data reduces idle time, rework and inefficient use of resources on site.
Climate Action: Faster, more efficient construction processes reduce on-site energy use and waste linked to prolonged project timelines.
