Daniel Tardy

Daniel Tardy is a Naval Architect and Engineer. Daniel Tardy studied at the Ecole Polytechnique, Paris and at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Techniques Avancées (ENSTA). Daniel Tardy also has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nantes and obtained a doctorate ès sciences.

An Engineering Career: Construction and naval weapons engineer at the “Indret” naval station (1958-1964); CEO of Joseph Paris SA, Nantes, specialized in cranes and steel structures (1964-1971); President and CEO of Entreprises de Travaux Publics de l’Ouest (ETPO), general contracting company building bridges, dams and harbor infrastructures as well as industrial and office buildings (1971-1998); President and CEO of the Compagnie Industrielle et Financières d’Entreprises (CIFE), holding company controlling various general contractors in France, including remote territories in the Atlantic and Indian Ocean (1974-2013) and southern California (USA).

An Academic Career: Head of the Institute of Technology of the University of Nantes (1967-1968); Full Professor (Mechanical Engineer Chair) at the Faculty of Sciences, Nantes (1968-1975); Head of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Mécanique, Ecole Centrale de Nantes (1968-1971); Chairman of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Development and Territorial Planning in Europe (IHEDATE) (2005-2016); Chairman of the Cement Industry Foundation Ecole Française du Béton (application for concrete) (2007-).

Professional Federations and Political Involvement: Professional union for infrastructure construction in France (1998-2005); Chairman of the Board of the Fédération Nationale des Travaux Publics (FNTP) (1998-2005); Member, later Vice President and Treasurer of the Executive Board of the Mouvement des Entreprises de France (MEDEF) (2000-2005); President of the European Construction Industry Federation (FIEC) (2006-2008); President of the Confederation of International Contractors’ Association (CICA) (2010-2012); Member (since 1999) and President (2005-2011) of the group of Private Corporations, within the Economic Social and Environmental Council (CESE, third assembly of the French Republic); Treasurer of the Confederation of International Contractors’ Association (CICA) (2012-).

Along his career, Daniel Tardy was awarded Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur; Commandeur of the Ordre National du Mérite and Commandeur of the Palmes Académiques.
