32nd Congress of the Inter-American Federation of the Construction Industry (FIIC)

On September 30 and until October 4, the 31st Directing Council and 32nd Congress of the Inter-American Federation of the Construction Industry (FIIC) was held in Santiago, Chile.

On this occasion, the council had the mission of electing the new President of FIIC for the period 2019-2021, being elected Mr. Sergio Torretti (Chile), former President of the Chilean Chamber of Construction.

Together with Mr. Torretti, were elected as vice President, Mr. Giuseppe Angelucci (President of the Chamber of Construction of El Salvador), Mr. Enrique Espinosa (former President of the Peruvian Chamber of Construction) and Mr. Gustavo Arballo (Mexico), reelected Secretary General of the Federation. 

During the working days the presidents and representatives of the 19 chambers met to discuss the work which has been accomplished by the different commissions regarding Infrastructure, Housing, Sustainable Construction, Innovation, Relationship with Financial Institutions and Anti-corruption.

Also, during this Council, the former President of the Federation, Mr. Gonzalo Delgado (Costa Rica) together with the FIIC Secretary General, Mr. Gustavo Arballo (Mexico) signed the “Declaration of Santiago”, a document approved unanimously by the members of FIIC, where the Federation commits itself to the prevention and fight against corruption.

In the margins of the 32nd FIIC Congress, a seminar on “Challenges of Sustainable Construction” was held where industrialization issues and the use of BIM were discussed, among other topics.
